National Elementary Honor Society Induction, Tuesday, October 24, 6:00 PM, cafeteria. Grades 4 and 5.

Red Ribbon week, October 24-28, 2016  
Mon, 24 -- wear Star Wars shirt, "I am a star in the war on drugs."
Tues, 25-- wear orange shirt, "Orange you glad to be drug free."
Wed, 26-- crazy hair, "Hairs to drug-free living."
Thur, 27-- wear shirt backwards, "Turn my back on drugs."
Fri, 28-- favorite team sports shirt/jersey, "Team up against drugs."

Pumpkin Decorating Contest - October 24-31, 2016


  1. no carved pumpkins - fake or whole, real pumpkins only please. Plastic and real pumpkins are acceptable. Plastic or whole, non-carved pumpkins are necessary because a carved pumpkin will deteriorate in the library display. 
  2. Decorate pumpkins with costumes, paints, markers, adhere attachments (yarn, ribbon, buttons, foam, eyes, etc) 
  3. Creativity is your friend. 
  4. Theme - storybook character pumpkins
  5. Participation is voluntarily.
  6. Add child's name and teacher with masking tape or Sharpie marker on the bottom (out of view).

Storybook Character Parade.  Monday, October 31 - Dress as book character and bring book for parade. Skeletons, ogres, mummies, monsters, vampires, etc., are acceptable if associated with storybook.  Face masks/coverings, blood, gore, weapons are NOT allowed. The idea is to support reading and literacy is a positive, fun way.  Unfortunately, dressing as a clown this year is not advised due to recent upset of many children throughout the U.S with the creepy clown nonsense. These knuckleheads ruin the fun of a good clown for this season. Thank you for your understanding and support on this.

Vote, Tuesday, November 8 - Homestead Elem is polling location. Please be aware of likelihood extra traffic that day.

Mock Presidential election, Tuesday, November 8 - Students K-5th will have the opportunity to participate in a mock election supporting TEKS social studies curriculum, citizenship and America's free and democratic process. Ballot for student's will list candidates who appear on the official ballot in Texas:  Clinton, Johnson, Stein, Trump. Please discuss the importance of each citizen exercising their right to vote in our free nation with your child. Voting results of Homestead's student body will be posted on social media. As the school day closes, students will be urged to join their family in watching the election returns as we, the United States, elect the next president.

Veteran's Day ceremony. Friday, Nov 11; 9:00 AMVeteran's, first responders and law enforcement officers, including border patrol, are invited to this special event to honor each of them for their sacrifice and service. We appreciate our families and community for helping the Homestead staff to model and show honor for these folks who risk it all daily to protect us.
